Leslee Harris Smith Education Recognition Award
The Virginia Society for Respiratory Care (VSRC) may offer two $1,000 recognition awards in 2011 to respiratory therapy students enrolled in a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy educational program leading to an Associate, Bachelor, or Master's degree.
Applications will only be accepted from applicants who live within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Requirements:
1. Completed and signed application form (Note: electronic signature is acceptable.)
2. Letter from respiratory therapy program Director, or surrogate faculty member, verifying (a) Applicant's enrollment in an accredited respiratory therapy educational program and cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, (b) Candidate's worthiness for the award, and (c) Candidate's potential for a career in the profession of respiratory therapy.
3. An original essay of at least 1,200 words describing how this award will assist the applicant in reaching the objective of a degree in respiratory therapy and the candidate's ultimate career goals in respiratory therapy. The paper should include a cover page with the author's name, address, e-mail address, and phone number. The body of the paper should be devoid of any information such as applicant's name, address, or school that could introduce bias in the evaluation.

Note: Applications will not be considered unless completely filled out, signed, and accompanied by all supporting documents. Previous scholarship recipients are not eligible to reapply. Applications will be accepted at any time; however, the deadline for accepting applications for this award is July 1, 2011. Students must complete the application form for the current year.
Award recipients will be selected by July 30, 2011 and will be notified by the VSRC's Education Chair. Award recipients will receive (a) scholarship monies, (b) an award certificate, (c) complimentary registration at a VSRC's Educational Symposia, and (d) recognition at the VSRC's Mountain Air Symposium's Awards Ceremony.
