We encourage respiratory therapists to get involved with the VSRC, but we also support volunteerism within our profession! Here are other opportunities that are available:

  • American Association for Respiratory Care
    • To receive volunteer application notices, you must be an AARC member and opt-in to receive updates from the All Member Forum on AARConnect. This is the best way to receive important notices from the AARC. Look for this notification from Heather Wilden later in the year.
  • National Board for Respiratory Care
    • Start Volunteering with the NBRC
      • Social Media Ambassador
        • Passionate about making online content? As a social media ambassador, you will create content to help spread the message of the need for more RTs on your platform of choice. Ambassadors are rewarded for their commitment with fun incentives, including gift cards and NBRC swag.
      • Item Writer
        • If you want to be involved in creating new items for initial credentialing examinations, an item writer role is for you! Item writers receive training and support during the item development process and are compensated for each accepted item. For additional information about item writing, check out the Item Writing Guide and the Item Writing Webinar.
      • Credential Maintenance Program (CMP) Panel Member
        • A CMP Panel Member position allows you to help with the item development process that assesses continued competency in respiratory therapy practice. In this role, panel members contribute 30 to 40 hours of work for the year while they receive training, develop new items, and attend online meetings with other panel members and NBRC staff to edit item content together.
      • Consultant
        • Invited by the President of the Board of Trustees, each consultant term is one year, renewable for additional one-year periods. Consultants serve as content experts on examination committees and work collaboratively with fellow consultants, NBRC Board members and staff to edit and review items for the NBRC’s high-stakes credentialing examinations. Committees meet once or twice a year in person and virtually on an as-needed basis. Learn more about consultants here.
