VSRC Mission Statement

The VSRC will continue to be a leader in the art and science of Respiratory Care throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond.

VSRC Vision Statement

The VSRC will encourage and promote professional excellence, advance the science and practice of respiratory care, and serve as an advocate for patients & their families, the public, and the profession of respiratory therapy.

Strategic Objectives

  • Advocacy
        • Respiratory care provided by respiratory therapists is recognized and supported in all health care settings.
      • Objective
        • Advocate for access of patients and families to the knowledge, skills and services of respiratory therapists.
      • Description
        • Promote lung health through legislation, public awareness, and partnering with interested stakeholders.
      • Strategies
        • Inform and educate the public on our profession and our role as a patient respiratory therapy expert, and partner in public education efforts to advise the public on lung health and cardiorespiratory disease.
          • Number of public awareness activities conducted.
        • Monitor and support/oppose legislation that impacts the profession and the safe appropriate delivery of patient care.
          • Employ state legislative lobbyist
          • Participate in state/national professional advocacy.

        • Consistently deliver the right message, to the right audience, at the right time, through the right channel.
      • Objective
        • Communicate and market events, educational activities, and respiratory care services for lung health and wellness to the public and health care professionals.
      • Description
        • Disseminate relevant information through the timely use of current forms of communication.
      • Strategies
        • Communicate all pertinent VSRC member-related information through AARC Connect
          • Board of Directors (BOD) agenda, reports and previous meeting minutes are posted quarterly
          • VSRC sponsored member activities (educational events, Nominations and elections, and District events).
        • Communicate all pertinent AARC/VSRC information through other forms of communication
          • Example: Board of Directors (BOD) agenda, educational events, election results, and District events

  • Education/professional development
        • Offer engaging, valuable professional education that advances the professional practice of respiratory therapy and supports advancement of the profession.
      • Objective
        • Provide professional education to advance respiratory care knowledge, scientific inquiry, and research.
      • Description
        • Promote the continuing development of the respiratory care workforce by promoting formal educational programs, continuing education, research, and transfer of knowledge to clinical practice.
      • Strategies
        • Obtain feedback after programs (Capital City, Symposium by the Sea, Neonatal Pediatric Symposium, & Mountain Air Symposium) on effectiveness of the speaker topics on advancing respiratory care knowledge, scientific inquiry, and research.
        • Encourage respiratory therapists to pursue advanced degrees, credentialing and continuing education
        • Include the discussion of research and leadership in continuing education events

        • The VSRC provides engaging, high-quality educational and research conferences that attract respiratory therapists and inter-professional audiences.
      • Objective
        • Provide high quality educational and research meetings at the district and state level to attract respiratory therapists and inter-professional audiences              
      • Description
        • The society will provide educational opportunities through district meetings and state conferences
      • Strategies
      • The district directors from the five districts will conduct a minimum of one district meeting per year in each district.
        • Tidewater, Central, Blue Ridge, Western, & Northern
      • The program chairs will conduct four state conferences per year
        • Capital City Conference, Symposium by the Sea, Neonatal Pediatric Symposium, & Mountain Air Symposium

  • Membership
        • Maintain an engaged, diverse membership and advance membership to include the majority of practicing respiratory therapists.
      • Objective
        • Promote society membership to assure there are adequate resources to meet the mission of the organization.
      • Description
        • Conduct activities to increase and promote membership to ensure financial, volunteer, and contracted resources are available.
      • Strategies
        • Increase the membership of the society through support of district activities to educate respiratory therapists about the benefits of membership, and to promote student memberships.
        • Increase the involvement of members and activities of the society by encouraging involvement in the state society.

        • Assure that the society utilizes established guidelines and practices to manage revenues and expenses and report financials.
      • Objective
        • Manages fiduciary responsibilities to the membership and the association in general following required guidelines
      • Description
        • Manage fiduciary responsibilities to the membership and the association following generally accepted accounting practices. Produce ample revenue to support annual society initiatives.
      • Strategies
        • Identifies critical business documents and established guidelines for storage, retention, and disposal
        • Quarterly accurate Balance Sheet and Profit/Loss statements are compiled
        • Follow Chartered Affiliate handbook Appendix G: Record Retention Schedule
        • Establish and maintain an effective system of financial management
        • Orient new board members on financial literacy and policies during 1st quarter Board of Director meeting
        • Maintain an up-to-date Treasurer’s Orientation manual based on the AARC Chartered Affiliate handbook
        • Biennial bonding of Treasurer and other signatories.
        • Utilize internal and external control to meet financial objectives
        • Develop and approve annual budget at annual business meeting
        • Establish accounting practices for effective documentation and reporting of society financials.
        • Follow AARC House of Delegates Policy and Guide Manual: Policy HD015 Chartered Affiliates Financial Reporting Obligations
        • Biennially provide proof of not-for-profit status
        • Annually provide proof of IRS Form 990 or 990EZ filing.
        • Biennially complete a financial audit or review by an independent CPA.
        • Biennially complete Financial Reporting Checklist and submit to HOD 60 days prior to Winter HOD meeting.
